Ramón Menocal is a Cuban-American visual artist by training and education.
He studied Drawing and Painting at the prestigious Academia de San Alejandro in Havana, Cuba, and earned a Master’s degree in Art History from the University of Havana.
Early in his career, Menocal worked at the National Center of Restoration and Museums in Havana, where he restored historic murals and paintings.
He received a full scholarship to study Mural Painting Restoration at the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid, Spain, and contributed to the preservation of Francisco de Goya’s frescoes at La Ermita de San Antonio de la Florida.
Upon returning to Cuba, he restored the façades and murals of Old Havana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Menocal later lived and worked in Eastern and Western Europe, New York, and Washington, D.C., and currently resides in Bethesda, Maryland.
He combines his artistic practice with teaching and cultural collaboration.
