An early series exploring Havana’s architectural identity through abstraction, structure, and urban memory.

La Ciudad de las Columnas (The City of Columns) explores the architectural and cultural identity of Havana through abstraction and structural composition. Inspired by the city’s iconic colonnades and urban rhythm, Ramón Menocal transforms architectural elements into expressive visual language.
The series captures fragments of façades, walls, and spatial memory, where geometry and texture evoke both physical structures and emotional resonance. Through oil and mixed media works, the compositions reflect a dialogue between order and decay, permanence and transformation.
As an early body of work, this series establishes key themes in Menocal’s practice—place, identity, and the reinterpretation of environment through abstraction.
