The Transculturación (Transculturation) series explores the complex process of cultural transformation and identity formation. Rooted in Cuban history and influenced by the blending of African, Spanish, and Caribbean traditions, these works reflect the dynamic exchange between cultures that defines transculturation.
Through abstraction and symbolic forms, Ramón Menocal creates compositions that evoke layering, fragmentation, and synthesis. The series draws inspiration from the concept of the “ajiaco”—a Cuban metaphor for cultural mixture—where diverse elements coexist and evolve into new identities.
